Support Telephone for Endometriosis & Pelvic Pain Pilot (STEPP) Program

Our Support Telephone for Endometriosis & Pelvic Pain Pilot (STEPP) Program will provide free support and evidenced-based education by a trained nurse educator to girls, women, and gender-diverse people newly diagnosed with endometriosis throughout Western Australia, ensuring they are equipped to manage their condition and reach their fullest potential.

This Program will enhance access to evidence-based education and support services for all Western Australians with endometriosis, but it will be particularly beneficial for those who are unable to leave their home or workplace, live in regional and remote areas, or are struggling financially.

How Does the STEPP program work?

Treating doctors will be recruited to refer newly diagnosed people to the program and provide contact details to the nurse educator.

The nurse will arrange a free 45 minute telehealth appointment to discuss evidence based management and next steps in your journey.

Advice will be tailored to the needs of the individual and management strategies developed based on the pool of resource available within Western Australia.

Do I need to have a diagnostic surgery to be eligible?

No. If your doctor has made a clinical diagnosis of suspected endometriosis, and ruled out other conditions, you are eligible for the program.

What training will the nurse educator have?

The nurse educator will receive training from leading expects in endometriosis and persistent pelvic pain, and have access to Western Australian specific resources.  They will undergo training with a focus on endometriosis in the following areas:

  • Advanced training in holistic management of endometriosis.
  • Mental Health first Aid.
  • LGBTQIA+SB Training
  • Aboriginal Health Training.

What about people who already have been diagnosed with endometriosis?

The STEPP program is a pilot program which once proven successful, will be scalable to include people already living with endometriosis in future.
